Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Dr. Cyrus Njiru, has declared the ownership of Lodwar Airstrip. Accompanied by the Regional Commissioner, District Commissioner, Mayor and Councillors, at the Lodwar airstrip, Dr. Njiru said today that he is in Lodwar to claim the ownership of the airstrip by Kenya Airport Authority (KAA) and to fence and maintain. The PS said construction of the airstrip which is opted to start soon, will be facilitated by the regional commissioner mr Christopher Musumba and his team. Speaking to one of our reporters, His Worship Mayor of Lodwar Mr. David Kinyonge said, there are plans to relocate the airstrip to avoid risks of accident, insecurity and arrest. Mr. Kinyonge added, they had proposed three sites for the airstrip; Nakwei (Kanamkemer), Naroongor (Kakuma route), and lastly Lokitela Etuko (Eliye route). Lodwar Town planner Cllr. Odhiambo added that there is need to relocate the airstrip so as to reduce conjection in the town. The mayor advised the community to keep-off the airstrip and he urged the security officers to be peacefull when installing security at the airstrip.
