The peace and justice commission diocese of lodwar, in conjunction with the ministry of justice national cohesion and constitutional affairs together with humanitarian aid and civil protection, today started a four days training of prison warders and court liaisons officers at Anna Nanjala center.
Speaking during the launch of the training, advocate Mr. Ekaal Lokuruka said that there is need to educate the warders on the human rights when handling prisoners, which has been their greatest challenge to them. He added that protection of human rights of prisoners and creation of better working environment in prison is mandatory.
At the same time, chief inspector Mr. Nicholas Kipsang said that the warders are really pleased with the training that will equip them with knowledge to tackle the challenges they face during execution of their duties. He noted that with the current reforms, many course are offered in prison and that there is need for warders to fully equip to teach the same. The training which started today, will end on Friday 8th.
