Turkana County Assembly clerk has
been officially confirmed and sworn in after vetting by the County Assembly. Linus Lokawa Miinyan is now
Turkana County clerk and will perform the duties of the County Assembly to develop Turkana County.
The function was presided over by Turkana County Assembly Speaker Hon. Geoffrey
Kaituko together with Minority leader Lomorokai, Deputy Majority leader Barnard
Kebo and member of County Assembly service board Bethwel Kobongin. Hon. Kaituko
said that the clerk is capable and will work hard with county Assembly to
ensure all movements and matters concerning public service are well a dressed. The
speaker however said that Lokawa has been performing as acting clerk and the
way he was handling matters of the county Assembly together with the MCAs was in
order therefore with him everything will be okay

Two farmers in Lokwar Village Turkana South were attacked and killed on 13.06.2014
Tension at Lokwar Turkana south
after two people confirmed death and another two injured while they were busy
working in their firm. Confirming the Incident Turkana south OCPD Mr. Paul Kuria
said that the 2 were preparing their firms and the bandits suspected to have
come from Pokot ambushed them killing two and 2 Injured. The attackers have
come two weeks after the villagers flee for their safety at Kaptir Center and
500 houses burned down. The OCPD however said that security officers compresses
GSU, Administration police ASTU and KPR were taken to the village to hunt for
the culprits. He also said that they are co-operating with the security
officers to make sure the bandits are arrested.
HIV AIDS prevalence in Turkana county is worrying
Turkana Central AIDS Control Coordinator Mr. Alfred Emanman said
that HIV rate in Turkana County is 7.6% more than that of the National rates
which is 5.6%. The Coordinator said this during the stakeholders meeting at
Lodwar lodge yesterday where the two day workshop started.
The worker shop involved all leaders from various Ministries
like Agriculture, Health, Education and N GOs who are to identify key issues in
relation to climatic areas of treatment social protection and governance.On the other hand the In charge of Behavior change
communication technical Officer of APHIAPLUS IMARISHA , Mr. Alfayo Odongo said
that there era some factors which contributes in the raising of HIV rate in Turkana
County such as culture, sexual commercial workers among others.
Water project opened at Kalapata Turkana south on 9.06.2014 - by Ken Simiyu
Tullow Kenya launched water
project at Loperot Village in Kalapata Location Turkana South that costed 16
million. The water project was officially opened by Minister for Water Irrigation
and Agriculture Hon. Beatrice Asukul who said that Tullow oil Company has challenged
the County Government especially her Ministry whereby she promised to Co-operate
and drill water in Turkana county to boost the lives of pastoral community. The
Komusia water project is supplied in Nalemkais primary School and the whole
village of Kalapata Location.
In the ceremony Turkana South MP
Hon James Lomenen said that there are three parts: County government, Tullow
and Central Government and the three should put water as the first priority. Hon
Lomenen also added that Tullow company should consider Turkana community in job
Employment opportunities. This comes three days after Tullow Kenya Opened the
Dormitory of Nachukui Girls in Turkana North that costed 3 million and
Launching of Solar panels at Kerio Boys that costed 2.4 milliom today was the
project of Water which costs 16 Million. Tullow Kenya social Investment
coordinator said that their support for water cuts across Primary, secondary
and Tertiary education.
Co-operative society in Turkana County to improve their activities on 5.06.2014 – by Ken Simiyu
County Director
auditor of co-operative Society in Turkana County, Mr. Aggrey Wamocho said in a workshop that
all members of the society should meet together to share and give their views
concerning the co-operative society. Mr. Wamocho however added that the County Government has set plans to improve Co-operative Society, so it is also important
for the society to be educated on the roles of co-operative banks, challenges
facing the Co-operative movements and possible solutions of running the Society. The
auditor also said that co-operative legislation will be discussed to empower
the members on issues of the financial management, roles of committee and
access to credit value addition. The participants were from all line
ministries both County and National Government.

TULLOW OIL INSTALLS SOLAR LIGHTING FOR KERIO BOYS ON 8.06.2014- By Ken Simiyu
Tullow Kenya handed
over Solar Lighting system to Kerio Boys Secondary School that costs 2.4 Million.The
project, which Involved the provision of solar power was Installed in the class
Rooms, Dormitories, Laboratory
and Administration Offices was handed over at the ceremony which was presided over
by Turkana County Deputy Governor Peter Ekai, Turkana Central MP John Lodepe
and the Executive officer in charge of Energy Rhodah Loyor. Deputy Governor said
that the County Government is working together with Tullow Kenya to improve the
Livelihoods of Turkana community mainly in Education and other development in
the County.
