The
celebration of African children normally held on 16th of June every
year where all African continents remembers the day of which Africana children
were killed at South Africa for demanding their rights.
Speaking
during the celebration Deputy county commission of Turkana south Elija Kodo
said that this celebration is very Important especially in Trkana south where
every year young girls and boys drop out of School for early marriage.
He urged
parents to Invest in children and resist early marriages to enable children go
to school as they are the leaders of tomorrow.
The in
charge of child protection in the Diocese of Lodwar Eunice Majuma said that
this year development partners decided to stage the function in Turkana south
because of the highst cases of early marriages and urged parents to participate
in fighting against the early marriage and the theme of this year is stop child
early marriages.
The guest of honor was a class eight pupil from
Angorabat primary school of Turkana south Sylvester Loruka who singled out the
challenges that led into early marriages as poverty ,Illiteracy, ignorance from some of the
parents ,pear pressure and many other vices in the African society.
The
development partners who made the day to successful were Dioceses of Lodwar
through the department of child protection, World vision Kainuk,save the
children, IRC, Child fund Kenya, SAPCONE, Mission of hope, Tumain CBO of
Kanamkemer county government and National government.
