Local news - 13.06.2011- By Kodet Philip – Prevention of mother to child Transmission Training held, St. Teresa pastoral center.
Prevention of Mother to Child transmission of HIV/AIDS training begins today at St. Teresa pastoral center. The training which is facilitated by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in partnership with Elizabeth Glazier Paediatrics Aids Foundation (EGPAF) is training 35 health workers drawn from the larger Turkana county. According to the program officer of Elizabeth glazier paediatrics AIDS foundation Mr. Ali Dida, the training is targeting health workers, nurses and also clinical officers from Turkana central, south, north, east, west and loima districts. He also said that the training is aimed at giving health care workers with the necessary knowledge and skills on how to help an HIV/AIDS expectant mothers from transmitting HIV/AIDS to their unborn babies, and to enhance them to give tests to the mothers and accord them with the hopeful necessary support in taking care of their HIV negative born babies.
