The Swedish minister for development cooperation Hon. Gunilla Carlson has appreciated the efforts that are put in place by the ministries of agriculture and water for carrying out practicals on food production. Speaking today in Lodwar town where she was carrying out assessment of projects funded by her government, she said that the horn of Africa is affected much by drought hence making it difficult to carry out humanitarian activities in the region.
Carlson insisted that there is need to strengthen our responsibility in capacity building about food production through irrigation. She was pleased with how some of these mini projects which are funded by the Swedish government, are run.
Hon. Gunilla who was welcomed by the district commissioner Turkan central Mr. Humphrey Nakitare, also visited Lodwar district hospital to access malnutrition levels in the district. The minister's convoy also visited Kirichakinongon common interest group farm in Nakwamekwi village where irrigation farming in being practiced. These projects are funded by Swedish government through organized groups.
