Residents of Soweto and California conducted a peaceful demonstration today from Soweto village via Nzioka street and ended at river Kawalase.
They raised their grievances to the city council of Lodwar. They claimed that heavy rainfall that is hitting the entire Turkana county has made the county to experience floods making the place impalpable.
They also complained that their houses have been swept by floods from river Kawalase and most of them have no where to shelter from rains and colds. One of the resident from Soweto said that they have been seeking for help from the Council and their grievances have not yet been answered .They are now appealing to the Government to chip in and help them since they are Kenyans and they need to enjoy their rights as fully citizens of this country. Transportation from Lodwar town across Kawalase river has become a impassable, and it has affected transportation from Lodwar, Kakuma, Lokichoggio and Kalokol causing some business to stand still in Lodwar town.Furthermore Some KCPE candidates were locked out of exams because they could not cross over.
