Community
workers in Turkana county, today have been asked to embrace children
registration immediately after birth. Addressing the community
workers from Turkana east at Golden guest house, the district civil
registrar Mr. Joseph Orata said that it was important for all stake
holders to be involved in protect children rights which registration
is among. Mr. said that the workshop is held amid the concerns of the
community leaders on the child abuse and early marriages in the
county. The registrar noted that the registration of births and
deaths in the region is still low compared to other regions. He urged
community workers to sensitize the community on the importance of
registration both to the family and the government. The workshop
brought together teachers, church leaders and community workers and
facilitated by the district civil registrar Mr. Joseph Orata and the
Turkana child protection net work chairperson Seline Locham.
