Last Sunday marked the 17th Sunday on the calender of catholic church and parishioners of St. Augustine Cathedral church have been told to Pray persistently and not to be self sufficient. In his Homily Fr. Nakutan told the Christians that in the reading of today Abraham was between God and the people of Sodom and Gomora which was a sinful country but Abraham prayed and through His prayers God did not destroy every body. Fr. Nakutan called upon Christians to follow the foot steps of Abraham through praying without giving up. He added that there are two things that Christians should know and these were the weapons which Abraham used to face God with, Christians should lean how to ask for forgiveness and repentance. Fr. Nakutan added that Christians should not be self sufficient, satisfy and also self righteous, but they should be social conscious and follow the example of good Samaritan with their neighbors and take them as one family. He warned those with little faith to pray persistently in oder to receive his blessings since God's time and hour is always the best. Fr. Nakutan thanked our lady's Girls secondary for animating mass and also bid farewell to The seminarian Imo Bassols who had been assisting in the parish but now goes back to the seminary. We wish him God's blessings as he prepares to be the minister of the word of God.

Local News – 12.05.2013- By Ken Simiyu - Be Firm in your Faith, Bishop tells Christians.

Parishioners of St. Augustine Cathedral and those in the outstations have been asked to stand firm in their faith and not allow themselves be shaken by the events of the previous week. Lodwar Diocese Bishop Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich told the faithful that they should seek refuge in God during this difficult moments and their faith in the risen Christ is all they need to overcome the evil plans of the devil. Bishop Kimengich advised the Christians to avoid exchanging accusations and looking for individuals to blame for the sad events that occurred but instead leave everything to God who is merciful, mighty and the true shepherd of our lives. Rt. Rev. Kimengich reminded the congregation during Mass on Ascension Sunday that as Christians they cannot avoid temptations and persecutions in their every day lives and when faced with challenges they should not despair but ask God for direction on what should be the next course of action. He asked the faithful to especially pray for priests and bishops who are more targeted by the devil in attempts to break their faith and steadfastness in God. “The devil is not asleep and he knows that once he succeeds in making a priest fall then he will manage to lead Christians astray” said Rev Kimengich.
