3.01.2016 Accept change in your lives, christians urged



Christians of St Agustine Cathedral  were today urged to accept changes in their lives especially in this new year.
Speaking  in the first Sunday homily Fr. Damiano Eripon urged the Christians to have wisdom and accept new changes ihappening in their lives. Fr. Damiano gave a comparison from the book of Isaiah and also the gospel of Matthew where king Herod instructed the killing of all male infants after he heard  of the birth of Jesus.
He further added that in the current world many people are not will to embrace change be it at home, church and in their working places.
This day was marked as a very important day in the catholic calendar of events as it was the first Sunday of 2016 which was termed as Epiphany meaning that Christ is seen as the Messiah of the world. The Epiphany also illustrates that Christ created many stars that testifies in our day to day life.
                                            
Fr. Eripon concluded by reminding Christians to preserve this stars so as they can illuminate the world by following the teachings in the church and also the good virtues in a  Christian’s  life.

By ken Simiyu 18.1.2016 Residents of Kakuma Town Demonstrated over the death of a 2yr old baby.



The dead of a 2years old baby forced residents of Kakuma to demonstrate accusing a clinical officer to be held responsible.
The incident which happened on Saturday lasted for 6 hours forcing police officers to control the situation by firing teargas to disperse the crowd.
Confirming the Incident OCPD of Turkana west David Nyabuto said that they arrested the clinical officer for investigation
                 
According to clinical officer the child was suffering from malaria and was visiting the clinic for five days but long last the baby passed away.
Cases of Malaria in Turkana west reported every day, in kakuma refugee camp the number of Malaria is recorded high where by every day adult are said to be more than 30 patient daily and children 50 and above.
People are advised to use mosquito nets to prevent mosquitoes.

Turkana county residents will not have to travel outside the county to seek medication as they now have services at hand. This is after the Turkana county government launched malty million health equipments that are meant to help reduce chronic and harsh diseases among the people of this country
Speaking during the launch that was presided over by the health chief officer, director for health in Lodwar referral hospital Dr. Gilchrist Lokoel expressed his gratitude towards the county government for helping the hospital control hard-hitting disease.
                         
Dr. Gilchrist urged the locals to make a good use of the equipments as the county government has invested a lot of money in health sector to better their lives. He said that the government has also hired qualified staff to ensure accurate services to the locals.
According to Dr Gilchrist, the equipments has cost the government over 146 million, including an advanced computerized scanning machine worth 45 million. The machine is expected to help in scrutinizing brain and bones related diseases. He further noted that the main challenge in handling the facilities will be in high usage of power as the machines consumes a lot of power. He said there is more sapparatus on the way just to make Turkana a better place to live

15-01-2016 By Ken Simiyu 8 HOTELS IN KAKUMA HAVE BEEN CLOSED UP DUE TO POOR CONDITION

Health department, who have shut down a number of premises which do not meet hygiene Standards In a 3 days inspection that was carried out by the public health officers from Turkana county,
The officers accompanied by journalists and civilian police officers walked through the towns Streets inspecting all the trading within kakuma, only to realize that innocent residents have been buying expired good that are dangerous to their health.
Addressing journalists after the completion of the exercise, director of Lodwar and referral hospital  Dr Gilchrist Lokoel said that they have taken an initiative to carry on with the inspection in entire Turkana County so as to save the lives of all residents 
            
Accompanying him was deputy director Alfred Emanman who urged the residents to be careful before they buy anything  should observe expiring dates
               
The process started on 13th and ended on 15th, the targeted areas were kakuma town, the refugee camp among others. Most affected premises that were closed include 8 hotels, like Green Park, 3lodgings, 2butcheries,2 restaurants,2 whole sales and alcohol sellers.

By Ken Simiyu 8.1.2016 River Turkwel runs dry, posing danger of drought



One of the  permanent rivers in  Turkana,  River Turkwel has dried up causing fear to the farmers and pastoralists who depend on it for drinking water and irrigation purposes.
Farmers from Natirae near St. Kevins seconday school, Kapelibok, Katilu, Nakwamoru and Kaputir irrigation schemes in Turkana south have been adversely affected by the drying up of the river.
According to Samwel Ebei, a farmer from Natirae Irrigation scheme, complained that most of their farms were seriously affected for more than 7 days due to lack of water flowing into their farms, saying that their crops had dried up as a result of drought and fears that if the situation will continue then their animals will die too.
                  
Assistant chief of Kaputir Isaiah Emeri said that they have also faced rough time at Turkana south where the crops and animals have been negatively affected as a result of scarcity of water.
 
There has been ongoing renovation of Lomopus Bridge which is under construction near Kalemongorrok. Ekuom Ewoi the business man who is also known as ‘Indicator’ revealed that the running water from Turkwel River was diverted for the cleaning of Turkwel Gauge Dam.
