LOCAL NEWS – 10.02.11 - By Zacheaus Otaba - Training of trainees on WASH programme takes place at the st augastin's parish hall
The training of trainees is taking place at St Augustin's parish hall here in lodwar. The training is targeting to reduce cases of in hygiene and lack of water in schools within the district.
During the opening of the session, the medical officer of health for turkana central Dr. Gilchrist Lokoel said that he is pleased, because the trainees are people who are learned and that they will take the right message to the people in the grass roots.
He said that most people in Turkana are suffering and even die due to ignorance. He pointed out of what happened in 2009 where 7 people lost their lives in the district through cholera out break. The Dr. warned that he would not be glad to see these happen again, after getting all this knowledge.
At the same time, the district public health officer, Mr. Innocent Sifuna said that UNICEF and WASH Kenya will ensure that all the selected schools will get water through construction of tanks and installation of piped water.
He said, ten school were targeted in this first phase of six months. Mr. Sifuna urged the Tots to take care of the tanks and make sure that always water that is contained is clean.
The training is bringing together head teachers and other personnel in the education sector and is expected to end on Saturday.
