Stake holders and partners met today at st Teresa's pastoral center to discuss about voluntary medical male circumcision. Speaking at the conference, the medical officer of health for Turkana north and west Dr. Donald Mogoi, said that they were involving their partners, in order to achieve better results.
Dr. Mogoi said that they are involving their partners since every one of them has a role to play in the society and they are touching the whole county. Mogoi noted that there is need to educate the people about male circumcision which has been proved reduce HIV infections by 60%. he said that they are looking for long term solutions about the same exercise in the region, since children are continuously born.
However he agreed that they have a hard tusk to convince the community to cope with the exercise. He said that they are going to take care of the nomads, in the interior where there are no permanent health centers.
The doctor called up on all leaders right from politicians to the provincial administration, to help them in disseminating the right information about the exercise. The tusk force was elected to pioneer all the activities on voluntary medical male circumcision.
