The ministry of health in collaboration with UNICEF is carrying out a training to equip all the district Health officers with skills on how to kick polio out of the County at St. Teresa Pastoral center. The actual campaign is expected to kick off on 14th of July this year.
The DMOH of Turkana North and West Dr. JonahMagare said that the training is basically for the DHMT members from all over Turkana county on polio campaign. Dr. Magare added that the medical staff are being trained on how to preserve the oral polio vaccine {OPV} and also they are being trained on map drawing. This maps will not only help them trace almost 99% of the population targeted, but will also help them go around and reach the community thus ensuring that each and every child below 5 years gets the vaccine. He highlighted the challenges faced always when this exercise takes place being that some places are hostile and risky, ignorance and poor communication network in the County.
