The Turkana county today started a training on Risk Reduction at Anna Nanjala Education Education Center, the training attracted more than 40 offices from 6 districts, the officers were from various departments such as Lodwar meteorological department,The Ministry of Agriculture, Doctors among many other respected and learned people all over Turkana county.
Dr. Simiyu Taabu a lecturer at Moi university said that the training marked their 17th meeting on discussing the issues about disaster risk reduction, their main interest is the arid areas because these are the places were people are really suffering and undergoing hardship thus need for disaster risk reduction.
Dr. Simiyu added that the committee is ready to go down to the grass root level and find the community's views and hardship there after they are planning to find ways of helping and solving their problems. Dr. Simiyu said though they may seem to have achieved so much,but there are some challenges the committee is facing, these include Culture{taboo and customs},Resistance to diversity live hood, the Cross border conflicts {Turkana-Pokot} and Language barrier .However he argued the Turkana people to corporate and fight against disaster reduction.
