Local news -13.06.2011 - Kodet Philip - KAZI KWA VIJANA PROGRAM FIRST PHASE ENDS.


The kazi kwa vijana initiative project is now said to end this Thursday. The project which saw the youths within the municipality participating in cleaning the town kicked off in the month of April this year. The program funded by the government of Kenya through the urban development department project is aimed at engaging the youths so as to eradicate idleness brought by unemployment. According to the Project Deputy Coordinator Mr. Festus Erukudi, they received 3.7 million which was below their budget of 9 million to enable them carry-out the intended work. The project employed 150 youth workers, 6 supervisors and 6 deputy supervisors in each ward represented in the municipality. Erukudi reiterated the objectives of the project as to keep lodwar town clean by, uprooting proscobhis (Etirae) trees, mending water leakages and opening the feeder roads in town. He also added that, the project expectation is to promote socio-economic coexistence among the youth and empower them to address the issue of HIV/AIDS. Phase two of their project is said to begin as soon as they receive funding from the government.
