LOCAL NEWS - BY SOFARI WYCLIFFE – 5.9.2012- Turkana teachers resolved not going to school until their salary is increased.


Teaches in Turkana county this morning went on the street demonstrating peacefully regarding the increase in salary and other renumeration. As the strike becomes a major topical issue the finger pointing at the education minister shows theres a lot of questions out in the ministry. Most teaches resolved that they were not going to school until the issue is sort and salary increase. Speaking on behalf of the teachers in Turkana county the chairman for KNUT Mr. Ekidor said that they only demand a 300% increase and said what they are earning is peanuts compared to the workload they are doing in class. He further said the government had not fulfilled their promise of salary increment which they were promised in 1997 and nothing has been done to date most teachers puported the resigning of Minister Mutula Kilonzo as they carried the writing Mutula must go. The finger now points to the ministry particularly Hon. Mutula kilonzo . KNUT treasure Mrs. Clemetina Naita said Teachers are not going to school until the salary issue is sort out.
