The second round of kakumatt cup will start on 11\09\2012 in various playing grounds here in Lodwar and at Kalokol. So far six teams have qualified for the next round, Mahon F.C, Super united, Stateside F.C, Nawoitorong Rangers and Kalokol Rangers. Speaking through the phone with Radio Akicha, the F.K.F secretary, Stephen Esibitar said that on 11^th of September, Stateside will travel to Kalokol to play against Kalokol Rangers at polytechnic ground and on the same day, Super united will host Mahon F.C at catholic church ground, Nakwamekwi. The other teams shall play on 18\09\2012. Return matches shall be announced later.

Local News - By Ken Simiyu – 6.09.2012 - Empowerment on the importance of birth registration in Turkana County.

The department of birth and death registration in collaboration with World Vision held a training at Nawoitorong Women conference center for empowering the Turkana community on birth and registration. Speaking during the workshop, Mr. Festus Wangele who is in charge of children in the North rift said that many people neglect the registration of birth for their children. Mr. Wangele highlighted the importance of birth registration as the government will find it easy to plan for the children during the budget time. Registration also is the right of the child just it is for the naming and taking of the child to school. Mr. Wangele, however, said that it is easy and recommended for the registration to be done early.

Local news - 7.9.12 - By Mary Tioko - Jubilee Cross handed to Southern Deanery from Kalokol Parish, lake Deanery.

The Diocese of Lodwar this year celebrating 50 years of evangelization in Turkana, this reminds all the work of the missionaries who were led by late John Christopher Mahon who was from St. Patrick's missionary society. This years theme for the jubilee is arise and evangelize towards a deeper Christians commitment. The Jubilee cross was launched in the Cathedral grounds last year December the 8th and will come back to the Cathedral to close the jubilee year this year 8^th December. All parishes have been having the cross in their various parishes and outstations starting from the oldest parish which was Lorugum and after that came to central, Northern Deanery, lake Deanery and lastly Southern Deanery. His lordship also said that this Jubilee year has brought blessings to the County and also the world, since pope Benedict the IV has chosen this year to be the year of Catholic faith where catholics are called upon to witness Christ. His lordship also added that the oil discovery is another blessing to the county. He also mentioned that this is the year where the voters will determine the fate of this country including Christians and urged them to be careful in choosing leaders so as to elect leaders who have the needs of the people at their hearts. Another jubilee blessing is the launch of the 20 billion irrigation project in Todonyang by the Prime Minister which will feed people in the whole country when rolled out. The jubilee cross was received in the southern Deanery by the dean who went to collect it from Kalokol and was handed over at Lochwangikamatak outstation of Christ the king Lokichar parish from where it will be taken to Nakwamoru parish which is the oldest in the southern Deanery. When the cross goes round all parishes in the south it will be brought back to the cathedral awaiting the 8^th December celebration to close the jubilee year. Local News – 6.09.2012 - By kamar Francis - Secondary Head – teachers to plan for the term.

The secondary school head-teachers from Turkana county today carried their normal meeting which is normally carried out at the beginning of the term. Speaking at St. Teresa the KNUT chairman Mr. Tony Nasia insisted on the yesterday demonstration saying the government has not yet fulfilled their promise which was made in 1997. The head-teachers and teachers in that meeting complained that the legal notice 534 of 1997 in allowances side which was categorized that head teachers and principal would have 50% allowances, deputy head teachers and deputy principal would have 40% allowances and teachers in primary would have 30% has not been implemented. Most of the teachers felt betrayed by the previous installment and have decided keep off from classroom business until the government fulfills their demands.

LOCAL NEWS - BY SOFARI WYCLIFFE – 5.9.2012- Turkana teachers resolved not going to school until their salary is increased.

Teaches in Turkana county this morning went on the street demonstrating peacefully regarding the increase in salary and other renumeration. As the strike becomes a major topical issue the finger pointing at the education minister shows theres a lot of questions out in the ministry. Most teaches resolved that they were not going to school until the issue is sort and salary increase. Speaking on behalf of the teachers in Turkana county the chairman for KNUT Mr. Ekidor said that they only demand a 300% increase and said what they are earning is peanuts compared to the workload they are doing in class. He further said the government had not fulfilled their promise of salary increment which they were promised in 1997 and nothing has been done to date most teachers puported the resigning of Minister Mutula Kilonzo as they carried the writing Mutula must go. The finger now points to the ministry particularly Hon. Mutula kilonzo . KNUT treasure Mrs. Clemetina Naita said Teachers are not going to school until the salary issue is sort out.

Local news - 4.9.12- By Ken Simiyu - Ministry of Public Health in collaboration with Aphia Plus Imarisha strategize on community health issues in Turk

Aphia Plus Imarisha and Ministry of public health today held a workshop at St. Teresa pastoral center to introduce activities done in the community by the two stakeholders. The workshop focused more on educating the community on health issues. Speaking during the workshop, the District Public Health Turkana Central, Mr. Innocent Sifuna, said that the best way to go about that is to involve the community in all the stages of community participation. Mr. Sifuna also said that through community strategy, involvement of the community in taking up responsibilities to improve community level of awareness. The workshop attracted more than 12 public officers from 6 districts and members of Aphia Plus Imarisha. The health officers were collecting issues which they believe shall help the government in the programme of health in the community. Mr. Sifuna, however, said that although they haven't run the programme they still believe they will succeed in doing so. The programme has never being in the Turkana community until recently some of the stakeholders have come in and have started to educate the District public health officers.
