Some 45 women have been trained in skills of making soap, lotion and shampoo among others. The training, which took place at Lokichar Guest House, in Lokichar, Turkana South, was attended by members of Action Women Group (15) and Magadi Women Group (35). Five others who were not affiliated to either of the two groups also attended.
Talking to us over the phone, the area Chief, Josephine Akal, said that the three-day training was geared towards equipping the trainees with skills necessary to make them self reliant so that they can easily meet some of their basic requirements.
The workshop which brought in a trainer from the neighbouring country of Uganda was organized by one of the Church Organisations in the area. Apart from contribution of training materials, the organisation gave each group Kshs. 10, 000/= to help them start their business.
