Turkana South District has registered 22, 000 (70% ) people in the voters registration exercise which is supposed to have ended yesterday but has been extended to Sunday. The big number of registered voters in the new district is contrary to what had been reported in a section of the media that the on-going disarmament exercise in the region had affected the exercise.
Talking to us over the phone today, Turkana South District Officer I, Bethwel Sang, refuted these allegations as the larger number of the people who have been registered is a proof that all was well.
Last week, it had been claimed that some people had fled the area fearing the on-going disarmament exercise.
