A team of eight health specialists comprise of 5 general surgeons, 1 pediatrist, 1 physiologist, and anaesthesiologist from spain have launched general operation at Lodwar District Hospital Eye Unit. The exercise which kicked off on Monday has attracted many people from Lodwar and other parts of the Larger Turkana. Dr. Carmen Narvaez, says they have so far attended to 61 patients out of whom 14 with minor and major complications have been operated. Dr Carmen further said that the main reason they have visited is to attend to patient various surgical problems. Addressing us at the eye unit in Lodwar district hospital, today, Dr. Carmen added that they were happy because this year they have received many patients and that they are trying they best to attend to them, the language problem not withstanding since they have the help of volunteers who act as interpreters. Thanking the Lodwar district hospital administration since this time round, the place of their operation has immensely improved making surgery easier than other years, she appealed to everyone who might be in need of operations or any other general surgical problem to visit the Lodwar Eye Unit. Other doctors who came with Dr. Narvaez are Dr. M. Jesus Sevet Convin, Dr. Purificacion Celero, Dr. Alicia Calero, Dr. Diego Parise, Dr. Jorge Parise, and Dr. Javier Rodriguez Velasco. The operation that began on 19th april 2010 will last until 30th april 2010.
