Local news – 6.01.2011 - By Emmanuel Lopus - Police wrapped up street children roaming lodwar streets today on back to school basis.

Lodwar streets has of recent become a home of very many children who spend cold night under the streets verandas .As the new terms starts in the new year of 2011, the Kenya Police have taken the responsibility of ensuring that every Kenyan child is taken to school as education in Kenya is free and compulsory for all children.
The police today had hard task as they were trying to chase street children and ensuring that they report to various schools in Turkana county. The children on their part were hiding away from the police as they have been used to gifts and hand outs by well wishers in streets.
The police are now calling upon all parents and well wishers to mobilize their children go to school to avoid child trafficking and child labor and in that we will be fighting child abuse in the community.
Any child roaming or even selling products in town will be punished seriously and taken to jail. Those people who have bad habit of employing children to work for them will be taken a serious action which can easily lead to imprisonment.
