National
Drought Management Authority started the three day work shop at St.
Teresa Pastoral Cent re today. Speaking during the meeting the
chairman of NDMA Mr Ibrahim Hussein said that the team has come to
collect the views from the pioneers who were involved in drought
management in the 1980s.The drought management experts has done a lot
of research in the Arid and semi Arid areas with more experience that
will help in protecting the repetition of the same. Mr Hussein also
said the government play big role but the drought management team is
to identify the lesson learned from 1981 so as to have current
reliable early warning system. The chairman urged the community to
change attitude of restocking because after restocking the raiders
shall come and go away with the live stock. One of the expert Mr
Stephen Anderson had this to say on drought experience in Turkana
county.
The other
one Mr Lammert Zwaagstra who witnessed massive of people dying in
Turkana west in 1981 also had this to say. Mr Lammert however added
that it is the opportunity for the government to build the system
that is a fotable for the people. Since the sign for early warning
now is for yellow co lour which means warning time and now the stake
holders should be ready to make sure they protect the people from
loosing their lives.
