More than 10 Pokot raiders believed to be from North
of Pokot County attacked a village in Lokiriama location, Loima sub-county and
tried to escape with 300 livestock and leaving behind a handcuffed 12 year old
boy who was rescued by the villagers.
The raiders tried escaping with the livestock which
took the effort of the national reservist police as they recovered the stolen
livestock and rescued the 12 year old boy who was handcuffed by the raiders.
Lokiriama location chief, Mr. Lucas Akeru, urged the national government to
deploy more national reservist police in the area.
Speaking to Radio Akicha about the attack, John Lokaper who
is National reservist police said the administration police did not offer any
help to them as they claimed they were waiting for orders from the higher
offices in Lodwar town yet they were in a position to assist deal with the
situation.
It is now evident that administration police in the
area are not carrying out their duties as expected and they are leaving all the
work for the national reservist police especially in times of attacks. Loima
sub-county administrator, Titus Ekiru, said the Pokot community has been
sending messages that they will be attacking the area defying the orders of the
inspector general of police who urged them to live in peace.
The attacks come as the inspector general of police,
David Kimaiyo, is visiting Turkana and Pokot County to assess the security
process in the regions.
