Local news - 9th dec 2010 – by Ekeno Sammy - Campaign against drug abuse held at talbot centre in lodwar

Today people from various communities of Lodwar campaigned against drug abuse at TALBOT CENTRE.
Nakwamekwi, Napetet, Kawalathe, Loitakito, Soweto and Kanamkemer. The TALBOT'S co-ordinator, Mr Mike Woods, together with the former drug addict Mr Andrew Lobolia taught people on the negative effects of alcoholism which is due to the illegal brewing such as changaa, busaa, kaada, muratina, kangara and many more.
Woods told them that alcoholism leads to liver cirrhosis,a terrible disease found within the blood and always affects the circulatory system of a human being. He also added that alcoholism leads to road accidents especially to drivers who over drink and forgetting themselves that they are carrying million hearts of people.Alcoholism also leads to poor family status due to improper use of finance hence poverty.
Woods also said that this kind of behaviour causes sexual immorality which later leads to HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancy. Woods also concluded by saying that for the greatest killer on this planet is alcoholism, then people need not to drink but only help each other in overcoming alcoholism and besides that,he asked them to pray to God each and every morning they wake up. He also suggested that they should quit drinking alcohol, keep visiting him for counselling and making the right decision in life. The assemblying ended succesfully where Woods urged people to meet once again on Saturday at 10.00am.
