Kenya Urban Roads Authority [KURA]
Confides consolidates meeting today to discuss the upgrading of constructing
Lodwar municipality Roads at St Teresa pastoral center. The meeting comes after
KURA was issued with a ban to stop Road construction from National Environment
Management Authority. The county NEMA Director Mr Richard Kering had issued
stop order citing that KURA did not have an Environmental Impact Assessment
report to start road construction. Kering
issued two stop orders one being to stop road construction worker in
Lodwar and also to stop excavation of
hill in Nasiger village. According to the Lead expert Engineer Seth Ordero it
was not a requirement for them to have a licenses for road construction.
Odero stressed that the
Environmental Management and coordination Acts 1999 allows one to issue a project report during the activity.On the
other hand Engineer Wilfred Oginga said the information they got from the stake
holders during the meeting shall be forwarded to NEMA. However Oginga
added that they hope to clear with
NEMA and the work resumes as usual and will be completed by February 2014.
