LOCAL NEWS – 31.01.11 - By Zacheaus Otaba - Residents of Turkana county are asked to maintain wild life for the future generation's benefit

People of Turkana have been asked to give any report about animal-human conflict noticed in their respective areas. Speaking in his office today, the warden in charge of Turkana county Mr. Josephat Erupe, said that the few cases that have been reported to his office have been handled.
He noted that the issue of warthogs that was raised by some residents in Turkwel have been attended to, and assured them of their crop safety.
He admitted that the issue of hyenas and Jackals eating domestic animals is rampant, especially in areas where nomads have moved now in search of pasture and water. He pointed out that the areas mostly affected are; Kotaruk, Loima, Lorengipi and Loya, since all the herdsmen in the region migrated to these places.
He said that his office is trying to educate the residents on the importance of wild life and their relationship with man.
The officer urged the residents to collaborate with his office to ensure that minimum loss is met in both crops, domestic animals and wild life.
However he thanked the chiefs and councilors that have been showing the concern of the issue, and asked them to sensitize the pastoral communities to take care of their animals so that neither the domestic or the wild life is extincted.
