Local news - by Ken Simiyu - 19.12.2013 - Stop discriminating people living with disability said chairman Mark Nakain



People with disabilities are facing challengers following the negligence and discrimination by their families. This follows the case that has been reported in the Diocese of Lodwar in the office that deals with people living with disability in Turkana community.The 74 years old man at St Mary’s Kawalase was reported to have been abandoned. The old man Ekuom Lochakai Manik who believed to have 11 children is facing challenges of getting food, clothing and also shelter.Speaking during the emergency food and cloths aid the chairman of Disabled people in Turkana central Mr Mark Nakain said that at St Mary’s village there are more than 5 people namely Joseph Ekitela 28 years old. Esekon Arot 40 years old Maraka Akoel Lokorinyang 45 years among others are the victims of Discrimination. Mr. Mark however urged them to form the small groups to enable them to be recognized by the county, he added that some of them has skills that can help them to earn the living. He also urge the county government to support them the Emergency food and cloths was raised by the Dioceses of Lodwar the county government should raise some funds for Christmas.
