Local news – 9.3.11 - By Mary Tioko - St. Augustine's Cathedral parish christians Mark Ash wednesday by receiving the Ashes
The christian Community of St. Augustine's cathedral parish came in large numbers today to receive the Ashes to mark the 40 days of lent season. Speaking during his homily, his lordship Bishop Dominic Kimengich called upon all christian community to devote this time in prayer, charity and
fasting to accompany our lord Jesus christ in his suffering.
His lordship encouraged the congregation to devote themselves to the people they serve for those who are in positions. He also said that when one fasts, one should not show off that she is fasting instead show generosity and commit oneself to prayer and service.
Bishop Dominic kimengich informed faithfuls that a sign of Ashes show that they are dust and in the dust they shall return and thus shows that the Christians are ready to repent and return to God our father. He said that the catholic church has given them 40 days to fast and prepare themselves for Easter so as to be worthy to join in his resurrection. His lordship encouraged the Christians to fast in what they dearly love most in this season in order to celebrate his resurrection happily.
