Local News - 04.08.2011 - By zacheaus Otaba - Lodwar municipal mayor retains his seat

The lodwar municipal council's mayor David Kinyonge has retained his mayoral seat in the elections that were carried today at lodwar municipal council hall. Kinyonge went unopposed, after his opponent, councilor Christopher Apua forfeited the elections.
Mr Kinyonge who is voted in for the third time as the municipality's mayor, is faced by the challenge of ensuring that the council’s performance is up to date. However he admitted that the council has been sluggish in arresting some issues, but promised to improve. At the same time the municipality's clerk Mr. peter Keitany who was presiding the elections, said that the elections were free and fair. He called for all those who have elected into the office to show cooperation to achieve the goals of the council. Other departments covered were finance headed by Andrew Logiron, public health headed by Gabriel Ibulon, internal audit by john Ekiru while Jacenta Epeyan was elected head of town planning. Otherwise two other positions were left vacant, education and HIV/Aids departments.
The new personnel will be in the office till the end of 2012, when new elections will be carried.
