LOCAL NEWS – 25.08.2011 - by zacheaus otaba - Government haven't taken much effort on the new constitution

The government of Kenya seems to be reluctant in the dispensation of the new constitution. Speaking today during the second day of the training staged for prison warden from Lodwar GK prisons, the regional coordinator on human rights from the legal resource foundation trust Mr Lenson Njogu, said that they equipping the officers with knowledge, to sustain human rights.
He said that they normally prison officers, police, judiciary, probation department, children department and other actors in the administration of justice. Njogu said that their partnership with other gate keepers like peace and justice catholic of kitale, diocese of lodwar, Christ the king kibera, kituo cha sheria and independent medical unit, has yeild some fruits in their working.
He said that they started training in 2003 after carrying the research and found that the police were leading in violation of human rights by 78% and followed by the prisons by 16%. However he added that during the recent research there was an improvement in the prisons department which dropped to 3% than the police which is still at 72%.
Mr. Njogu said that they have been training the police in Isabania, Meru, Nairobi, Embu, Machakos and later to Kiambu, Nyeri and Marsabit. He added that they targeting officers working in the crime office and investigating officers.
