LOCAL NEWS - KEN SIMIYU - 11-8-2014 - CANAAN I.D.P CAMP FACING A MAJOR CHALLENGE OF LACK OF TOILETS TO SERVE THE HUGE POPULATION

Canaan Camp for the Internally Displaced People located in Kanamkemer, Lodwar Town is facing a major challenge of lack of toilets to serve the population of more than 1000 I.D.P’s. The camp which was started way back in

2008 and which is now holding more than 600 houses has only 3 toilets which are functioning and this is raising concerns on hygiene matters.

The problem has now forced the residents to device other methods to at least solve the issue which are not hygienically advisable and can easily cause diseases. Speaking to Radio Akicha during an interview, youth chairman representing the I.D.P’s, Dominic Emase, said they have failed to notice where the missing link is because according to the national government the tender to construct the toilets was given out yet the construction has not began as by now.
