The worlds Aids day campaign was today marked allover the country whereby, in Turkana it was celebrated at Mikeka grounds in Lodwar town. The campaign which was scheduled to start at 9.00 am in the morning ended at 1.30 p.m.
Amongst the invited guest at the function were the assistant Medical officer of health for Lodwar district Hospital Mr. Gilchrist Lokoel, chairman of Aids control committee Mr. James Ekidor , the officer in charge of police Division ( O CPD) and guest of Honor District officer 1 (D.O 1) Mr. Levi Senoga. D.O.1 said,
Speaking during the ceremony Mr. Lokoel said that this occasion takes place 1st of December in every year to talk on the prevalence and the HIV status of the community and also thinking about those who are living positively in our communities.
Mr. Ekidor urged people to carry out their HIV status test since it's only 16 percent of the total population in Turkana Community who have been tested while 84% are not. This leaves room for more testing to be carried out.
He further told the crowd that it is of great importance for everyone to know his or her status. However, Mr.Lokoel said that the most challenging cause of this disease is poverty as per the statistics, then the other minor causes such as male circumcision can be encouraged to prevent the spread of HIV/ AIDS.
