At early hours of this morning; around 3.30am gunshots and sharp cries woke the startled village of Todonyang that resides at Our Lady Queen of Peace parish Church’s compound. The cries were of Martin Opiyo who was struggling for his life with a gunman trying to rob and to kill him. Martin is a fish trader who in the company of his teammates; Brian Aridi, Robert Owuor and Josua Kamanga, had been coming every month with a 6tonnes-refrigerated truck to buy fish from Todonyang. But today seemed to be his last, as the gunman got better of him and he laid dead minutes later while his bag with money to buy fish and some belongings was taken.
The shaken villagers could not go to sleep while life slipped away from Martin.
In the wake of the morning, the truckers took to the footprints that the culprit used and this was our biggest surprise: the footprints ended at the AP camp in the unit of one officer! An Administration Police was the assassin and robber!
The deputy OCPD and the DO1 of Turkana North visited the crime scene and the suspect taken to Lokitaung though the bag with the money has not yet been recovered.
We hope that Justice will be done.
