The second round of polio vaccination and vitamin A to children under the age of five years kicked off today in Turkana county.
Addressing the people during the launch at Turkana district hospital, Dr. Kabir from the world health Organization said that polio is a dangerous disease to children and all mothers or whoever has a child who is below the age 5 years to be vaccinated since the vaccination is free.
Dr. Kabir said that they have trained the vaccinators from different parts of Turkana and they will be moving from house to house vaccinating all children of less than five years against the disease and it is also available in all Health facilities.
He further said that during the first round of vaccination they did not give out vitamin A because it was not available but for this second round they will be giving out vitamin A to children under the age of 0-11 months.
Health officers present during the launch were Dr Gilchrist Lokoel the District Medical officer ,Dr Muthama and Dan Adara from the National Logistician.
