Cooperatives and marketing minister Hon. Joseph Nyaga has said that poverty is the cause of the increasing cases of insecurity in this region. Speaking yesterday at the Turkana county council hall, where he was addressing the cooperative members from the county, the minister said that insecurity along Pokot Turkana border will only be curbed by initiating income generating activities.
He noted the issue of devolved government, where every county will be receiving 3b per year, as only the way of making the every county to be independent. He encouraged teachers to increase their membership to at least 1500 members, arguing that it will only be the way of enabling them to expand their SACCO.
The minister insisted the importance of forming Sacco's by small enterprises, saying that it eases development. He opened the Turkana teachers cooperative head quarters and visited several Sacco's which included Turkana women and Turkana youth cooperative society, in Lodwar town.
