The Lodwar senior magistrate who is the chairman of Court Users Committee Mr. Thomas Nzyioki has warned against mixing of both male and female gender in one police cell saying that it is violation of Human rights. The magistrate said this when Addressing the committee members at St. Teresa's Pastoral Centre today.
Court Users Committee meeting is a forum where the various stakeholders organized by the Justice and peace Programme co-coordinator Mr. James Ekai enables the Judiciary, children's department, probation department, Children Department - Diocese of Lodwar, OCS, OCPD, Provincial Administration, Business persons, Radio Akicha, Hosanna Fm stations are members.
Mr. Nzioki highlighted Insecurity issues rising in the streets due to the influx on street children which prompted the committee to set another sub-committee which was tasked on spearheading the issues of children rescue home in the county. The education facilities in Nakwamunyen village have not been put in use since the building was constructed. The committee signed Some members to follow up the issue and help the children in the area.
The task force mandated to facilitated the refurbishment of court cells/police cells gave their report and General administration of Justice in Turkana region was discussed at length where the Chairman mentioned that an extra magistrate of Lodwar law courts Mr. Harrison Barasa is now topping up the judicial services in the county and court sessions will be regular.
