LOCAL NEWS - 17.4.11 - BY Mary Tioko - Faithfuls of St. Augustine's Cathedral Mark Palm Sunday in style.

The faithfuls from St. Augustine's cathedral parish marked the palm Sunday in style. The faithfuls which started the procession at the Mikey grounds in Lodwar came all the way through the town to the cathedral grounds where the holy mass was animated by Fr. Simon Mutate. The Christians proceeded to the cathedral compound while singing Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna In the highest matched towards the cathedral compound. The Christians from St. Luke and St. Augustine's waved the palm leaves happily and sat patiently waiting for the readings of the day. In the homily of the day Fr. Simon Mutai who was leading the mass invited the faithfuls to reflect on the readings and internalize them so as to be worthy to share in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The faithfuls were encouraged to reflect on their Lenten season this holy week and reconcile themselves. Fr. Mutai highlighted on the three types of people during christ passion and death. The tempting type of people who were happy as christ suffered, those who saw him as a solver of their problems here on earth since they took him as a earthly king, and the those who saw him as the heavenly king who is their redeemer. Fr. Mutai asked the faithfuls to reflect on which category they fall in during this holy week. The priest challenged the faithfuls to be the likes of Mary Magdalene and Veronica who followed Jesus to the end and stood firm in their belief. He also asked them whether they were like disciples who fled away when they sensed danger when Jesus was arrested?! He said that christ came to save us and his kingdom is not here on earth but in heaven and calls upon all the people to seek his kingdom especially in this holy week where silence is observed.
