The ministry
of Public health Turkana County has cracked down food premises and Wholesalers
that do not meet the standards of public health in their exercise which started
in Kakuma Town Turkana West sub-county. The exercise that is led by
Deputy Director of Public health Mr. Alfred Emaniman Ikeny and Lodwar County
and referral Hospital Director Gilchrist Lokoel is geared towards streamlining
the issues of sanitation and hygiene within the County.
The health
team has managed to close down some hotels, Lodgings, wholesales, clubs that do
not meet the required standards in Kakuma Town. This was prompted by complaints
from residents of poor health in Turkana west.
Some of the
items destroyed included drinks like reds which was picked from Mungai Base 3 found to be expired and
worse still, the owners changing the expiry dates to look recent by forging.
The exercise has just started in kakuma and will be replicated in other
sub-counties to ensure that the people of Turkana enjoy quality health
services.
