Governor Josphat Nanok yesterday commissioned the Kalokol water supply
project in Kalokol town, Turkana central sub-county. The Governor was
accompanied by water executive Beatrice Askul, energy and environment county executive
Rhoda Loyor, Kalokol ward MCA John Lochakolong and other senior county staffs. The
project which is estimated to cost Sh. 2 million will see the 15,000 residents
of Kalokol benefit with more than 288,000 litres of water every day.
Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Nanok said the project has
attracted the attention of Oxfam, who have now decided to install solar panels
to help in pumping water from the borehole.
Water and agriculture county executive Beatrice Askul urged Kalokol
residents to install water taps so that they can easily control the flow of
water hence reducing the wastage.
Kalokol MCA John Lochakolong expressed his happiness and thanked the
ministry for the great job however he wasn’t happy about contracts being given
to contractors outside his region.
The water supply project is expected to greatly reduce water shortages
in the area, a challenge they have being facing for a very long time.
