Parents in Turkana County have been warned not to send pupils and
students to schools when they reopen from the 5th of January because
of the looming teachers strike set to take place on the same day. Teachers all
over are planning to carry out a nationwide strike so that the government can
listen to their grievances especially when it comes to matters of salary and allowances
increment.
Speaking to Radio Akicha today, Turkana county KNUT secretary Tony Nasia
has warned parents and guardians not to risk taking their children to school
because the teachers will not be available.
He also added that the government is using the Salary and Remuneration Commission
(SRC) and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to frustrate teachers who are
vital in nation building.
Elsewhere education cabinet secretary, Professor Jacob Kaimenyi earlier
urged teachers not to carry on with their strike as planned and instead they
should back down for talks.
