Nadirkonyen children’s’ home has reduced its annual intake of street
children from 65 to 45 due to financial challenges it is currently going
through. It is now 24 years since the pioneering institution was set up and is
still going strong though financial problems are now dragging its operations. A
total of 1200 street kids have gone through the institution since its formation
in 1991 and some of the alumni are working in main public offices all over the
country.
Speaking to Radio Akicha at his office, Nadirkonyen children’s’ home
founder Hans Wennekes said the children all converge at the institution during
the holidays yet they don’t get supply of food during that time making it
difficult to maintain them.
Governor Nanok last visited the institution on December 2013 and
promised to provide any necessary support needed but this is yet to be seen.
