LOCAL NEWS - 11.06.2011 - BY KODET PHILIP - AN ACCIDENT OCCURED AT LODWAR BRIDGE


A Toyota truck registration number KSE 427 today early in the morning plunged in to the bridge along kitale-lodwar highway about 2kms from lodwar town at river Turkwel near Nikon Nikon filling station, The truck which left a lady and the driver with minor injuries was transporting sand to a construction site in lodwar town developed a mechanical problems when its gear and the brake failed. The lorry was moving from kanamkemer towards lodwar town before the accident occurred. On board were three men and a lady. The lady was rushed to lodwar district hospital where she was treated and discharged. The other two survived without injuries.
At the same place a motorist speeding towards lodwar town ferrying a passenger from kanamkemer knocked and seriously injured a pedestrian who was trying to avoid a pot-hole. The victim of the accident was rushed to lodwar district hospital where is receiving her treatme

LOCAL NEWS – 02.12.2010 - by KACHILA & ERUKUDI - One dies in a road Accident

One person died and five injured in a road accident after the vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road in Nasiger 35 km from Lodwar town, along Lodwar-Lokichogio highway.The vehicle belongs to a Non-governmental organization International rescue committee IRC and was heading to Kakuma.
The body of the deceased was taken to the mortuary and the injured persons were taken to Lodwar District hospital for treatment whereby three have been referred to Moi Teaching and Referral.The vehicle was carrying a team of six staff members.

Local news – 16.10.10 - By Mary Tioko - One student perished in a road accident - One student perished in a road accident


A form four student from A.G.C secondary school Lokichar perished in a grisly road accident today in the morning at 8.30am near Kanamkemer Village on Kitale Lodwar Highway. The Accident was caused by Tyre Burst,The vehicle veered off the road and rolled several times. A double cab Hilux vehicle belonging to the catholic Diocese of Lodwar was carrying students on a school tour from Lokichar to Ille springs when the accident occurred.The injured students were taken to Lodwar District Hospital for treatment. The two seriously injured students have been taken to Moi Teaching and referral Hospital for specialized treatment.Radio Akicha sends condolence to the family and friends of the deceased boy .

LOCAL NEWS - 15TH 09 2010 - BY PETER ESINYEN - NO ESCAPE, BODA BODA DRIVER FACES FACTS

A motorist knocked and injured an old woman today in the morning near youngstar Highway. The victim was rushed to Lodwar District Hospital for treatment and the motorist who tried to escape the angry mob was rescued by Boda boda Technical Adviser who arrived at the scene immediately.
According to the eye witness, the victim was crossing the road when the motorist that was in ahigh speed knocked her down living her unconscious.
The boda boda spokesman Mr. Alemu John who was also around the scene said that all motorists should observe the rules that were implimented on August so as to evade road accidents.

LOCAL NEWS - 4.8.10 - BY MARY TIOKO - ACCIDENT ON THE EVE OF REFERENDUM


The accident occurred yesterday near Nasiger Centre near Lomil Junction. The incident invoved a lorry that was verying election materials to 3 different stations in Turkana Central District when it Knoked a standing trailer that was destined to Lodwar from kakuma and the Lorry was verying election materials from Lodwar. Among the seriously injured people include 21 polling officers from the 3 polling centres. The injured people are admitted at Lodwar District Hospital. All victims were officers from the 3 stations thus the stations involved remain unopen until new officers are deployed with election materials supplied because all election materials were destroyed. According to the District independent interim electoral commission co-ordinator Mr. Stanley Kipkore the election materials shall be airlifted from Nairobi and they will do all possible means to see that officers are available for that exercise. Visiting the victims of the accident DO 1 Turkana cental Mr. Levi Senoga, OCPD Turkana South Mr. Lawrence Njoroge and his counterpart Loima OCPD Mr. Muchiri Nyaga have called for calm during the exercise and assured the public that the Government has put security measures in place. They wished the Victims quick recovery.

Local News - 6th May 2010 - Blames on Road Construction at Lodwar Town. By Emmanuel Ekuwom.

Lodwar Boda-Boda Association have blamed the government on yesterdays accidents that occurred at national Cereals and produce Board( NCPB ) road involving motorbikes, where one of them by the name Lochii Lopia was seriously injured. One of them was seriously injured but has been discharged this morning from Lodwar District Hospital. Speaking to us, Boda Boda Technical Adviser John Alemu said, the recent accidents is caused by poor road states adding that the state of the road leveling puts the motorists and other road users and pedestrians at great risk. The recent report from the hospital says that Mr. Lopia has been discharged today. He related the two accidents that occurred on Sunday and Monday at mama Atabo and Islamic road respectively, leaving many disappointed with fingers pointed to the government. Councillor Yusuf Ali Muhammed appealed to the public to be careful, not to drive when drunk, and not to over speed. He urged the owners of the motorbikes to ensure their drivers have driving license, and they are insured.

Local News - 26.04.2010 - NAPEITOM MIGRATION KICKS OFF. By OKOTH PETER.

Movement of people who were displace from Napeitom by raiders from a neighbouring district have started going back. The exercise which kicked off Saturday aims at moving back about 1,500 most of who have been residing in Lokori and surrounding areas. Talking to us in Lokori recently, the Turkana East Acting District Officer I, George Anyona, said that to move back to Napeitom was mooted last year. The exercise being funded by VSF-Belgium in conjunction with Provincial Administration. The number of people who had been targeted to be moved 300.

Meanwhile a 10 year old boy was crushed to death on 24th at Kaputir. According to Turkana South District Officer I, Bethwel Sang, Esinyen Amokonyo, who schools at Kainuk Mixed Primary School had climbed onto a lorry that was ferrying a tractor from Lodwar to Kitale. He had done this without the knowledge of lorry driver. Along the way the chains that had been used to secure the tractor became loose forcing the tractor to roll upon which Esinyen was crushed to death.
