Local News - 03.05.2010 - THE SHOT BOY FINALLY MOVED TO MOI R&T H. BY OKOTH PETER.

Aukel Ewoi, the boy who was wounded when raiders suspected to have come from a neighbouring country attacked their Nameyan Village, 7Km north of Lobur village in Turkana North District, an incident that saw his mother and a sister killed, has finally been moved to Moi Teaching and Referal Hospital, Eldoret for further treatment. Aukel, was airlifted in 540 flight today through the assistance of Missionary Community of Saint Paul the Apostle (MCSPA). His father, Epat Ewoi, had earlier moved by road in company of one member of the congregation.

The boy, who had been lying at Lodwar District Hospital, had been transferred to the Referral Hospital but could not move due to logistical problems as a source at the hospital that talked to us last week, had claimed that there was no fuel.

Mr. Epat had earlier appealed through the Press for assistance so that his son could be transferred to Eldoret. Radio Akicha carried his unfortunate case twice.

Local News – 29.04.2010 - The Wounded Boy Still Awaiting Specialist Treatment. By OKOTH PETER.

The boy who was wounded, Aukel Ewoi, when raiders suspected to have come from the neighbouring country attacked their village at Nameyan River, 7 KM north of Lobur Mission in Turkana North District, is still at Lodwar District Hospital, despite the fact that he has been referred to Moi Referral and Teaching Hospital, Eldoret for specialists treatment. His father, Epat Ewoi, told us that he was getting concerned over his sons's wounded foot. “If I had money my son would have been moved to Eldoret,” he said. Our efforts to get comments from the Hospital Medical Superintendent were fruitless as he was busy operation room. However, a source that did not want to be named said that it was not easy to move Aukel to Eldoret for lack of fuel. He said that the allocation the hospital receives from the headquarter was not enough and therefore patients or their people are called upon to cost share more so on fuel, driver and the accompanying nurse's allowances. Aukel's father, Epat Ewoi, now appeals to well-wishers to come to his son's aid so that he may travel to MRTH.
