Priest from all the parishes of Lodwar Diocese yesterday converged at St. Augustine's Cathedral Parish for the blessing of Oils liturgically known as Chrism Mass. The holy mass was celebrated by Bishop Dominic Kimengich who also had chance of meeting with his priests.
Addressing the Priests in his Homily, His Lordship Dominic told the priests that their call to priesthood is a special gift which they have to treasure and guard it well against the pleasures of the world. His lordship said that the priests represent Christ in their various parishes and that the holiness of every parish depends to the holiness of the Priest in charge. He informed them that they are the other Christ.
His Lordship informed the priest that their presence in the parishes gives the parishioners Grace as their blessings makes them clean in the sacrament of penance. He also informed them to make some of the rooms special for prayers so as to be communicating with their God always. He said that when they place prayer places away from them they also become far from God. His Lordship added that the Eucharist celebration has to be respected and that priest should be prepared when going to celebrate it.
As they renewed their commitment to God, priests also blessed the holy oils that are used to anoint the sick, Catechumens and Ordinations. He encouraged the laity to support the priests and help them to continue following christ. Bishop Kimengich wished all a happy Easter as they go back to their various Parishes.

Local news – 31.08.2011 - by Zacheaus Otaba - Turn to the lord since there is light in Christ
The director st James Juniorate who is also the assistant priest of st. Augustine Father Simon Mutahi, has urged the youth to turn to the lord, since Christ is full of light and life.
Speaking today during the recollection with the youth of st. Stephen at the st. James Juniorate center, the priest said that a large number of youth is lost in worldly things, instead of seeking spiritual life.
Father Mutahi noted that it has been a big challenge to bring the youth together for the common goal, especially for the development of the church. However, he was courageous that the reaction of the youth showed that they had learnt something from the day's theme which was what do the people say Christ is.
The priest gave an example of the world youth day that was celebrated in Madrid, Spain that was led by Benedict XVI and attended by hundreds of thousands of youth. He called for youth to attend the Sunday's mass in large number, since it will be their last day before opening, where they will be blessed together. The event brought together more than 25 youths from st. Augustine, which make up the st. Stephen youth group.

Local News – 16.05.2010 - FOLLOW THE FOOTSTEPS OF CHRIST: CHRISTIANS ADVISED. By OKOTH PETER
Christians have been advised to follow the footsteps of Christ in whatever they do to nurture their Christian life. In his Homily, during the holy mass that was celebrated at St. Augustine's Cathedral, Lodwar Parish, Fr. Simon Mutai, said that Christ humbled himself when he came to live among mankind and agreed to die on the cross so that the Will of God be done.
He said that in order to follow the footsteps of Christ there was need to act like Christ did, our words be the words of a good Christian and thoughts be those based on Christ's way of life.
He further said that there was need to focus one's life on the Holiness of Jesus Christ and be ready to participate in the things that help to make one's faith grow. Christ's Ascension to heaven was marked today.
Meanwhile, St. Augustine's Cathedral, Lodwar Parish Administrator, Fr. Francis Teo had expressed his gratitude and that of the church officials to all Christians who have positively responded to their appeal to contribute towards the completion of the stalled latrine project. The Church officials said that there still other things that were still needed and appealed for more donations so that the project could be completed before the ordination day.
