LOCAL NEWS – 15.3.2011 - BY SOFARI WYCLIFFE - State side football club smiles at the end of the tournament



State side football club today at prison ground celebrated their victory after beating super united Nakwamekwi and scouping the trophy by 4-1 . The tournament that started on 1st march is sponsored by gospel outreach church in process of bringing youth to christ through football.
In the first round both teams seemed to be strong in the first place until Etoot Kennedy popularly known Etoo scored the first opening goal some times before the end of first round game.
In the second round, the second, the third and fourth followed from state side which scored 4 while on the other end super united Nakwamekwi player nakwawi scored one goal.
Speaking to Akicha reporter the state side coach Mr Festus Erukudi said that he is very optimistic that his team which is composed of young players is going to do well and bring more trophies.
In the other end the referee was very much happy and said both team did very well in terms of discipline, he said the only problem during marches lies in funs who keep shouting and throwing words to the players. he suggested that the organizers of the tournament should get a security that will protect the coach,players and referees against harassment.

LOCAL SPORTS – 14.03.2011 - By Zacheaus Otaba - Nakwamekwi Fc succeeds for finals


Nakwamekwi fc today crashed earth movers 2-1 in a game played at Lodwar prison's stadium. Nakwamekwi took a lead at the 20th minute through Cameroon, while earth movers equalized at the 38th minute, leading to 1-1 at the first half. Nakwamekwi through the player Koya heat the last nail on the earth movers' coffin at the 72nd minute making it 2-1 to the last whistle.
Both teams were meeting for a replay after tying yesterday in the normal time, where by the match ended at 0-0. however the penalty's results also drew at 7-7 and was resolved that they were to today, after they ran short of time.
On the other side state side walked over Kanamkemer 2-0 in a game played at Lodwar mixed play ground. Though the game had a lot of indiscipline cases, state side went through and will be facing Nakwamekwi tomorrow for finals. However though earth movers were defeated, they automatically go through position three.
The finals will kick off tomorrow at 4.00pm at prison's ground where there after awards will be given to the winners.

LOCAL SPORTS – 05.03.2011 - By Zacheaus Otaba - Lodwar revenge their beatings by giving loyopo 7-0 at lodwar prisons ground.


The glory out reach assemblies tournament today clogged a high note where most teams showed improvement apart from few. Lodwar high broke a record by scoring the highest, since the beginning of the tournament, by beating loyopo 7-0 at Lodwar prisons stadium.
Else where St. Kevin's played down supa united fc 1-0 at Lodwar mixed grounds this evening. The only score was netted through a penalt after the supa united defence made a blunder at the penalty area.
In the games played early today, mahon FC walked over PAG secondary FC 3-1 at prisons stadium while earth movers smashed the salvation army secondary FC 4-1 at lodwar mixed ground.
However there are two other games to be played this weekend, tomorrow earth movers will play loyopo at prisons ground while the rocks faces PAG secondary fc at lodwar mixed ground. All the games will kick off at 4.30 pm.

Local News - 13.01.2011 - By Emmanuel Lopus - Mahon FC draws 3-3 with Earthmovers at a friendly match played at Kawalase primary school playing


Mahon FC Napetet drew 3-3 with Earthmover at a friendly match at Kawalase primary school playing grounds today evening. Earthmover's were the first to score through the player Bellamy Ajuat after which officer Jared equalized for Mahon FC with a header outside eighteen.
The same player Bellamy Ajuat scored the second goal after getting a very good cross from Isaac Ekadeli. Nelson Homework made the going 2-2 with a penalty kick after Jared koono played roughly inside the penalty area.
Later on Omar Mohamed scored the third goal for Earthmover's when Mahon FC defenders made a blunder inside the penalty area. Mahon FC reacted and scored the third goal through Gregory Lomala famously known as Destroyer and the match came to an end according to the referee of the day David Lodoso. GO! GO! Our local footballers and soon we will see you in the international matches!

Local sports - by zacheaus otaba - EARTH MOVERS WIN MAMA MZUNGU CU

The finals for mama mzungu cup have been held today at the Lodwar mixed play ground, where Earth movers played down state side 3-0.
Stanley Ngige netted the first score at the 17th minute of the first half while Francis Erukudi poured the second and the third scores at the 76th and the 86th minute consecutively.
It forced the referee David Lotulia to give a break to the match to converse with the team manager for state sides Pius Ruto and team coach for earth movers Joseph Eduhula about his security in the field after feeling that he has been threatened.
On the other hand Kanamkemer played Nakwameki at Lodwar prisons ground.The league organizer , Peter Kebo said that the marches started on 9th September, and the theme was sports for development, growing together in unity.At Bishop Mahon centre Nawoitorong played down Kanamkemer 12- 6 in Netball, while soweto walked over Nakwams 3-0 sets in volley ball boys.Kanamkemer found its way over Napetet by playing them 22-2 in Basket ball.Various prizes are to be awarded to the best players and teams, which ranges from the cup to monetary.

LOCAL NEWS – 14.9.10 - SPORTS FOR PEACE TRAINING - BY SOFARI WICLIFFE AND KABUE SIMON

IKV. PAX CHRISTI held its annual meeting of peace today at St. Teresa pastrol centre with its member from Kenya, Sudan and Uganda.
IKV.PAX CHRISTI which sponsors SOPA{seed of peace africa}was formed in 2006 in kuron sudan due to conflict within the three coutries, the aim of SOPA is to stop cattle rustling among the ethinc groups that depend on livestock these are Turkana, Karamoja, Marille,Toposa and others along the borders of these countries.
Speaking to Akicha reporters, the facilitator Mr. Meindert Korevaar from Holand said that the organization is targeting youths from the three countries through sports. MR. korevaar further said that they tried the system in kuron sudan and it worked giving them motivation to go to other neighbouring countries.
The facilitator aims at bringing hope to the youths and uniting them for the purpose of curbing cattle rustling through sports.
One of the participants Mr. Wycliffe said that he was really impressed with the work of the organization and was hoping that the formation of the organization is going to bring youth together and transform them socially.
The participants were engaged in brainstorming session of small group discussions so as to get a solution to curb cattle rustling that has caused many lives among our boarders.

LOCAL NEWS – 2.9.10 - SPORTS AT KERIO ZONE

The following teams participated in Kerio division tournament;kerio,Eliye springs,nadoto,kangatosa,lorengelup and nakurio.all the above teams played volleyball but Eliye and nakurio managed to get up to the finals whereby Nakurio won by beating eliye springs two sets by one.in football kerio and eliye springs managed also to reach to the finals,whereby kerio thrushed Eliye springs by beating them four goals by one and won the trophy.the closing ceremony was attended by Festus Erukudi lorogoi and all headteachers in kerio zone led by their chairman mr.patrick eregae samal.
All teams that participated were given balls except kerio,Nakurio and Eliye springs which got uniforms.Games were conducted well by bishop mahon referees,and the welfare part was seriously taken careof by the kerio youth chairman Mr.Wilson korima.

Local News – 18.04.2010 - Mr. and Mrs. Lodepe's Cup. By Emmanuel A. Ekuwom.

Nakapongoroit are now the winners of Mr. And Mrs. Lodepe Cup after beating Ngilukumong 3-2 goals in Mr and Mrs Lodepe cup finals. The match which was played today afternoon at Nakwamekwi primary attracted many spectators. In Volleyball Nadirkonyen conceded 3 set - 0 with nakapongoroit in their finals. The guest of honour Geofrey Kaituko, Arid Lands Coordinator thanked the organisers of the tournament saying that it was, through such events the youth from turkana region are brought together, forget their differences and and give them anopportunity to brainstorm issues on developmen and how to improve their society. Mr. Kaituko was accompanied by Equity Bank Lodwar branch, Job Nyosork, Kenyatta ward Councillor Mrs. Concepta Anam. The Coordinator urged the Government officials to support youth sporting activities. Mr Nyorsok, on his part said that his company was ready to assist the the youth and women in Turkana who wish to venture into business. He appealed to involve his office whenever they come up with business plans for any support. The winning and the second teams received trophies, soft drinks and biscuits. Others received palying the balls. Eluktoliase player. Yusuf Muhammed was categorised the best player of Loyo Tournament whereas in the Volleyball Namvi received the same title.
