Candindates have been urged not to rush to answering the exam questions before carefully reading the instructions. Speaking today at Lodwar mixed primary school during a Standard Eight Prayer Day, Mrs Mbithe Etaan, the Education Officer Turkana Central district said candindates should not develop fear as the exam day is just around the corner.
She said they should not over-study at night for the papers ahead of them since that will lead to them being sleepy and confused while sitting for the paper. Etaan further said that when the papers are brought, the candidates should relax and read the instructions carefully before answering any question.
The area chief, Mr. Patrick Lorogoi wished all the candidates success as they prepare for their exams that will commence early next week. The event was organised by the school headteacher Mr. Timothy Wabuya in collaboration with the District Education Office.

LOCAL NEWS – 26.10.2010 - by Teresa Kachila - COMMUNITY LED TOTAL SANITATION EXERCISE DONE IN TWO VILLAGES
A workshop on community led total sanitation entered its second day, today at splash Hotel.The workshop which attracted public health officers from Turkana county, Merlin officers led by Wash and sanitation manager Mr. Lucas Edete and Local FM Stations( Maata Fm, Sayare FM, Hossana FM and Radio Akicha. The workshop was organised by the District Public Health officer Mr. Innocent Sifuna and facilitated byMerlin.
Mr. Sifuna and Edete led the participants in community mobilization in construction of latrines in their homesteads. Mr. Sifuna said that it was high time the local community learn to be independent and construct latrines because they are the ones who contract diseases. The community were discouraged from open defeacation and turn to open defeacation free status. Participants cleaned Nadirkonyen and Red banners villages as a pilot exercise on sanitation.
The villagers were shown how they come in contact with the waste without knowing. The triggering has three important aspects to be considred these are to intill fear, disgust and shame so that the villagers can decide on their own to construct latrines. The exercise which involved all the participants was succesful since the villagers decided on an open defeacation free status.
Seven people were chosen from each of the two villages to participate in tommorrows workshop to learn on the Action they have to take in constructing latrines. The three day workshop whose theme was Triggering community led total sanitation will end tommorow.

The training of the Public Health Officers on community led total sanitation ended today with the public health officers presenting their action plan for their work stations.The participants were equiped with knowledge on how to trigger the community to construct pit latrines.Scholastica Ekorot,th
e public health officer from Loima district who was the trainer explained the objectives of the training and the way forward for the community.She said it was important for the public health officers to implement what they had been taught.

LOCAL NEWS - 08.11.2010 - FOUR PEOPLE KILLED AND 130 ANIMALS STOLEN
Raiders from Pokot yesterday raided Napeiton Location Lokori Division in Turkana East District, killed four people and made away with 70 cattle and 60 camels.Those who lost their lives include area assistant chief and 3 herdsmen.
It is believed that the stolen animals were driven to pokot East District at a place known as kolowa.
The Turkana leaders led by County Council Chairman Mr Elim Longachar together with civil society organization have appealed to the government to pursue and recover the stolen animals as well as arresting those who raided in line with the Kenyan constitution chapter four which states that the cardinal responsibility to the government to protect the lives and property of the citizens.

NEWS – 3.11.2010 - By Praxides Khisa - TWO COMMUNITIES HOLDS A PEACE MEETING
The two communities represented by elders herdsmen and women met under the DC Loima Mr Moses Ifuto and DC Pokot North Mr George Onyango to resolve a conflict which had cropped a month ago where the pokot people stole over 30 cows from Turkana community as turkana warrior killed 5 herdsmen from the Pokot community .
In the meeting the pokot community was forced to return the 30 stolen cattles and in turn the Turkana communiy to make sure that the worriors who killed the herdsmen are arrested immediately.
The two Dcs Mr Ifuto and Mr Onyango accompanied by the armed forces officers warn the two communities to respond immediately before the government intervenes.

Local news – 1.11.2010 - By Edaan Daniel - Boda Boda Association clash
Boda Boda Associations have clashed over duties and responsibilities in running the associations.
Speaking to radio akicha reporter,John Alemu the chief technical advisor who is also the Boda Boda Welfare Association spokesman termed the clash as misguided and out of question.He said the Boda Boda Owners Association cannot duplicate the duties of the Welfare Association as its legal affirmed by the legal authorities.
The Boda Boda spokesman cited the remittance of the 500 daily returns to Boda Boda Owners as the main issue of contention registration of the motorbikes and their drivers and also the security
of motorcycles as the roles of the Boda Boda Association that cannot be transferred to BodaBoda Owners Association.
By now the two offices are situated next to each other in town.The security measures checked by the Boda Boda Association are overspeeding, overloading, drunk drivers and above all qualification through the production of driving license.
