The training of the Public Health Officers on community led total sanitation ended today with the public health officers presenting their action plan for their work stations.The participants were equiped with knowledge on how to trigger the community to construct pit latrines.Scholastica Ekorot,th
e public health officer from Loima district who was the trainer explained the objectives of the training and the way forward for the community.She said it was important for the public health officers to implement what they had been taught.
She urged the community to be ready for their village to achieve the open defecation free status.
The facilitators were quick to point out that the training was a success since the field work conducted was able to gtrigger the identified communities.Mr.Lucas Edete the water and sanitation manager for merline also urged the residents to embrace the Action plans to reduce contamination of water and food that cause oral diseases.He said it was important for veryone to take responsibilities because no one is safe,if one has a latrine and the neighbours defeacate openly they will also be contaminated so it should be a collective measure.The community led total sanitation exercise will be carried on until Turkana county is declared to have attain an open defecation free status.The facilitators will make the follow up to gauge the achivementsD in the triggered communitie
