The turkana people held a two day workshop at lodwar Medical Training College to address the issues concerning turkana county.
Addressing the members present In the workshop ,the Minister of State for Development of Northern Kenya and Arid Lands Hon Mohamed Elmi E.G.M at the opening of the training said that the good governance is essential for peace and development. Devolved governance which will be enhanced under the new constitution offers many opportunities for counties such as turkana .
Hon Mohamed said that because of good governance there will be enhanced resources for marginalized areas particularly through the equalization of funds ,county assembles will be able to pass legislation and the larger county is more appropriate for addressing issues such as environmental management and pastoral mobility
He added that a county like Turkana needs sufficient skilled personnel to run its devolved institution and therefore a good governor must be a good administrator.
He said, Turkana County has no Physical planning map and therefore it has been lied for a temporary basis , so they have held a seminar to facilitate the process of how turkana shall be incuded on the national map because it has affected the political,economic and social status of the Turkana communities.
The Hon at the same time opened new classrooms and a hostel at Lodwar Kenya Medical training college and visited various projects at Turkwel and Nakamane in Turkana which were implimented under his ministry .
