Ursuline sisters in a convent in Kanamkemer parish have been reported to have received threats from unknown people using private calls. The death threats are said to have been posed to sisters by unknown callers who in the first allegation claim to be human rights activists working in the lager Turkana region. The said group claim to be fighting for the rights of two workers in Kanamkemer parish and Lorugum convent respectively . Further allegations are that the sisters drive luxurious cars and still under pay their workers.
According to Fr. Joseph Okpala the priest in charge of the parish said that the the threats have been posed for a duration of one month now and the sisters have fled for their lives, this has paralyzed services at St. Patricks dispensary and other mobile clinics that were facilitated by the sisters in the parish due to their withdrawal from the parish. The nuns departure has left the community and the government in dilemma of the dark future now awaiting Nabulon girls primary, Turkwel and Turkana girls secondary that are run and sponsored by the Ursuline sisters congregation.
Raphael Locham who is one of the members of the parish council was shocked by the lump sum amount of ksh 100,000 ransom claimed by this group that has caused tension in the parish and to the Ursuline sisters and the community at large. The has been reported to the police and the security officers together with crime department are going on with the investigation. The community members have been asked to report any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Local news – 12.1.2011 - By Sofari Wycliffe - 3RD round polio immunization campaign to kick off on 15th to 19th January 2011
The ministry of health has organized a third round polio immunization campaign to prevent children under five years of age from infection in Turkana county.
The immunization which is starting on 15 January ends on 19th is an exercise conducted in all areas around the county by the ministry of health spearheaded by Lodwar District hospital staff to help immunize the children against this dreadful disease that has been affecting children for a long time.
This exercise is prompted by cases of outbreak which happened in Uganda which is one of our neighboring countries which is placing the Turkana community to a greater risk of infections. This is why the ministry of health takes the necessary precautions against the disease in all areas bordering Kenya before facing the disease itself. The ministry is calling upon all parents and guardians to avail their children for this house to house campaign.

Six students have finally been been selected to join national school from Turkana district county according to the 2010 KCPE results this year.
Speaking to Akicha reporter in his office today, Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO) Mr. Samson Ngarisa said that the 6 students were chosen from public and private schools equally three three from each side. The Lodwar mixed primary which is one of the public schools took three pupils to National school while Kare Academy which is a private school also took three pupils to National schools depending on their schools of preferences.
The provincial selection which is kicking off on Friday in Nakuru is full of determination has most students hope to lie in the provincial level who did not manage to make it in national level.
Mr. Ngarisa further said that a lot of measures has been taken to consideration to enable the 2011 candidates perform well in there forth coming National examinations come the end of the year. He further said that some strategies being put in place including the increase in teachers by the government, frequent inspection in schools and teachers transfers to enable smooth running of schools match their performances.

LOCAL NEWS – 10.01.2011 - By Emmanuel Lopus - shortage of super fuel stalls boda boda services in lodwar town today.
Boda boda transportation in town has been hindered due to shortage of super fuel in Lodwar fueling stations. Making stops at various fueling stations like Africans filling station, Nikon Nikon, Lota lado, and Kobil have shortage of fuel prompting the motorists to line up waiting to fill their motorbikes.
These delays have hampered the bodaboda transport as some clients/customers need quick services and meet deadlines. Commenting on the same issue, Mr. Jose Stone one of owners of the African a filling station said that the problem with Super shortage is Due to the delay of Oil transportation from Eldoret pipeline to Lodwar which is hindered by bad conditions of our roads.
Mr. Joseph also said that the policies guiding the transportation of fuel from Eldoret do not favour the conditions of our bad roads as the vehicles plying these roads have to reach the pipeline area before by 5pm to collect oil or in case of lateness collect the following day. But hope is there tomorrow as the fuel will stabilize since most filling stations are expected to receive their fuel at night.

The parish priest of Risen Christ Nakwamekwei Fr. Raphael Cephalo challenged the Christian today in mass that baptism is not enough in the Christian faith but also Christian related actions.
Fr. Cephalo in his homily asked the Christians to pray for southern Sudan as they start their voting for the referendum today and will last for a week. He said the Christian missionary who had worked in Sudan experienced some challenges and thus need their prayers.
The priest encouraged the Christians to emulate the life of Jesus Christ who accepted to be baptized with sinners and he never excluded himself from others and also said that the fact that Jesus was born from a humble background makes him know our problem more and Christian should look unto him for help.
Fr. Cephalo challenged the Christians to stand by the first decision they made during the baptism when they accepted to follow Jesus Christ in there personal life and said that baptism is the beginning of a journey. He said Christian should be prepared for Christian life and encouraged them to grow physically at the same time spiritually. He also said that christians have to follow the voice of God in order to achieve eternal life.

Water problem will soon be over for the residence of Loyo, Natapar-kakono and the nearby areas as the water distribution to their areas will start soon.
As the new year begins the residents of loyo nataparkakono and nakamekwi are very optimistic that the new year is going to end there water problem they experienced in the year 2010
Speaking to Akicha reporter in Nataparkakono village Mrs. Paulina Ebei expressed her joy on the new plan that is going on in the water distribution across the Nataparkakono area and other neighbouring villages affected by the same water problem for long.
Mrs. Paulina Ebei said that the long distances travelled by the women an children in search of water will soon end and and more time will be used looking for other things than water as it used to be. She also said that the local pump had salty water which was not very much tasty for the residents and now will be relieved by cool water.
At the same time Mrs. Elizabeth Moru called upon the well wishers to help them finished the already started latrines under construction as they run short of materials. She also made a request for the construction of a dispensary nearby to a rest emergencies of various sickness before they trek for distances to the nearest Lodwar district hospital for the specialized treatment.
