Local News – 06.06.2011 - By Mary Tioko - Secretariat of the Diocese of Lodwar urged to pray

Secretariat of the Diocese of Lodwar were urged to pray for the trip of Bishop Dominic Kimengich as he travels to Europe today. The Vicar general Fr. Joseph Ekalimon encouraged the staff to pray for his lordship as he tours Europe for the betterment of the diocese of lodwar.
In his well elaborated homily he said that the church is entrusting this day and the days to come in the traveling of the bishop. Fr. Ekalimon said that the Christians can conquer the world by being brave and not being intimidated by anything since God is always on their side. He told them to lead well and feel supported by the Diocese in all they do.
The vicar general encouraged the staff to have knowledge of the world and its environment and urged them to guard it well. He also said that the virtue of humility makes them assured of the way of the cross. He added that they should shun away from violence which destroys their homes and even their working environment. Fr. Ekalimon assured them of the promise of the holy spirit and told them to remain optimistic and be strong in their faith. He encouraged the staff to pray always for the ministry of the sick in the diocese and the country at large, for in Jesus they can conquer the world now and days to come.

Local News – 5.6.11 - By Mary Tioko - Church unites christians as one family

The church unites christians as one family in Christ. The Christians of St. Augustine's Cathedral parish celebrated the 6th Sunday after easter today by reflecting on the events that took place after the ascension of Jesus Christ and the coming of the holy spirit. The vicar general Fr. Joseph Ekalimon said that Jesus is the head of the church and thus Christ has instructed Christians to continue with his mission here on earth.
Fr. Ekalimon mentioned on the five events that took place after Jesus ascension and asked the faithfuls to reflect upon . He gave them the example where Jesus appeared to his disciples on the road to Emmaus, and experiences of the locked room where Christ appeared and said peace be with you. Fr. Joseph said that in the manner of the beatitudes, Christ gave his disciples the instructions that will lead them and hopes that Christians follow them. The third reflection is the ascension and the second coming of Christ where God unites the faithfuls with the heaven and earth.
Fr. Joseph also mentioned on the importance of faith in Jesus Christ and emphasized on the sacraments which strengthens Christians in their lives. He said that the mission of Christians is to continue spreading the gospel to all who do not know him and make them his disciples. Fr. Joseph encouraged the faithfuls to make a difference in their lives for Christ is with them always. For In the church they are one family united in Christ.

Local news - 4. 6.11 - By Mary Tioko - Parents urged to partner for the well being of the child

St. Leo's Boys High school Kakuma yesterday hosted parents in the school compound. The day's theme was Partnership in education for the well being of the child, brought parents from all over the county and all other counties in Kenya. The Principal of the school Mr. Peter Momanyi welcomed the parents and the board of Governors who came to participate in the Parents day function.
Addressing the parents and students the Principal said that the school is now a provincial school and mentioned his strategies of passing exams which includes Early completion of syllabus before 30th June every year, Thorough revision and remedial lessons, speed tests which are the standard set question papers and revision papers, and finally engaging students in group discussions to help boost the performance of weak students.
The deputy Principal Mr. Napo gave the prizes with the help of the guest of honor Mr. Imuton from L.W.F kakuma to students who performed well .Mr. Napoo congratulated the students for the excellent performances and encouraged the rest of the school to perform well in this years exams. He also encouraged the parents to be close to their children and encourage them in their studies.
The parents were encouraged to pay full fees for their students and also encouraged them to participate in the developments of the school. The P.T.A Chairman Mr. John Aule encouraged the parents to take active role in the day to day running of the activities of the school.

Local sports – 3.6.11 - By Lopus Emmanuel - Mahon FC and Loyopo Fc

Mahon FC today evening thrashed Loyopo FC with 5 goals to nil in a friendly match that was held at Kawalase Primary school playing grounds. Michael Ikaru popularly known as (Ikendu) scored their opening goal followed by Calvin Abach with the second and third goals at the first half.
In the second half Losinyono Mallack Napopo netted the fourth goal in the first minutes of the second half and lastly Lokwawi Ashley scored the last goal that sent the loyopo team packing.
The referee of the match Mr. Vandrack praised the teams for their discipline during the matches. Next match will be between Mahon FC and Lodwar High school at Lodwar High school playing grounds next week.

LOCAL SPORTS – 01.06.2011 - BY ZACHEAUS OTABA - Mahon FC crashes Kawalase primary 2-1

Mahon foot ball club from Napetet today traveled all the way to Kawalase primary for a friendly match. Mahon FC took a lead at the 20th minute through Emmanuel Lopus, while Maruom equalized at the 65th minute. Calvin Abach hit the last nail to the kawalase's coffin at the 84th minute, making the end result to two to one.
This takes place one day after the rangers traveled all the way from Kalokol, to prisons' play ground, to discipline their hosts Earth movers 5 scores to 1 yesterday. However most teams are hosting and visiting others in preparations of the expected tournament from august this year.

LOCAL NEWS - 01.06. 2011 - BY ZACHEAUS OTABA - Go down to work district commissioner urges Turkana central leaders

The Turkana central district commissioner Mr. Humphrey Nakitare, has called for leaders to avoid posing blame on others, while they know how to arrest the situation.For a long time leaders have been found to be talking too much wards instead of implementing it. Speaking today during the Madaraka day celebrations, Nakitare said time to make noise for nothing is over, instead have clear accounts of what we have been mandated to do.
The DC said that leadership is not a one persons responsibility, but instead all the leaders should be responsible in their various fields. He advised that it were better if all the leaders in the county unite to assess all the projects set, to determine their performances and accountability. He pointed out how the renovation the airstrip was funded, saying that its work can be approved whether perfect or imperfectly done.
On security the DC said that his Turkana central security team, has put strategies in place to ensure that there is enough security in the district. He warned those who are willing to test the working of his team, that their days are numbered. He was reacting to the allegations that leaders were giving, during their speeches in the today's Madaraka celebration.
